To celebrate one year of opening Traenerhus will hold our first Annual Open Exhibition this September. We have called it ‘Breaking Chains’ in recognition of our location on Hull’s High Street opposite the Wise Institute for the study of slavery and emancipation. We want to see work that encapsulates that moment of a chain or shackle (physical or otherwise) being broken.
We want artists to submit work that to them represents a moment when they felt or recognised in someone or something else a sense of Freedom being realised. This is entirely open to the artists’ interpretation and as the name suggests, anyone can enter their work for this mixed discipline show.
We are open to all mediums, mixed or otherwise, including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, film, sound, textiles, sculpture and illustration We particularly welcome submissions from artists born or working in Hull and the surrounding area. If you submit film or sound work you will also need to provide equipment for its presentation.
Work will be chosen by our selection panel and entry opens on Thursday 26th July at 1pm and closes on Thursday 23rd August at 5pm. The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday 31st August to Saturday 1st October 2018. All entrants will be invited to our exhibition launch on the 31st August.
The closing date is the 23rd August so that’s only a month to get something ready for submission, but this could be something you have already made. So get your thinking caps on and let’s put on a right good show in time for the Freedom Festival this year!
